In Vitro Models for Discovery, Translation and Precision Medicine

Join researchers, clinicians, engineers, and trainees from across the region for a one-day symposium exploring the future of cancer research through advanced vitro model systems. Hosted by the Knight Cancer Precision Biofabrication Hub, this event will showcase how biofabricated tissues, organoids, organ-on-chip technologies, and other New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) are transforming our ability to study human disease, accelerate ttherapeutic development, and advance precision medicine.

The symposium will feature:

  • A keynote presentation from a leader in biofabrication and human-relevant model systems.
  • Presentations highlighting innovative cancer-focused NAMs and emerging technologies.
  • A panel discussion: "Are We Ready to Abandon Animal Models?"
  • Opportunity to connect with collaborators, shared resources, and technology partners.
  • Tours of the Knight Cancer Precision Biofabrication Hub facilities.

Whether you are actively developing advanced model systems, interested in incorporating NAMs into your research, or seeking collaborators and resources to address challenging biological questions, this symposium will provide valuable insights, practical guidance, and opportunities to engage with a growing community of innovators.

About the Knight Cancer Precision Biofabrication Hub:

The Biofab Hub serves as a collaborative resource dedicated to advancing tissue engineering, biofabrication, spatial biology, and disease modeling. By bringing together expertise across disciplines, the Hub is accelerating the development of next-generation cancer models that better represent human disease and support the translation of scientific discoveries into improved patient care.

Visiting the Knight Cancer Research Building (KCRB):

The KCRB is locked at all times, and staff will be onsite to assist with door access. Please use the entrance at the western end of the building, facing S. Moody Avenue.

Parking & Transportation

Parking is FREE in the OHSU Schnitzer Lot (next to the KCRB) after 5 pm. Street parking is also available for a fee. Unfortunately, we are unable to validate parking. Click here for detailed driving instructions to the OHSU South Waterfront.

Parking on campus is limited, so we encourage our guests to use alternative transportation whenever possible. The KCRB is conveniently accessible via several main public transportation lines. Attendees can take TriMet bus lines 9, 17, or 19, the MAX Orange Line, or the Portland Streetcar and disembark at either the S. Moody & Meade or S. Waterfront/Moody Transit Stations. For more information on planning your trip, visit Trimet.org or PortlandStreetcar.org.
